Artissima 2023: Elisa Alberti wins the VANNI Award for eyewear #artistroom

Written by MIDO | 11/06/2023

Artissima is the leading contemporary art fair in Italy, taking place from 3 to 5 November at the Oval Lingotto in Turin.

Among the awards given at the fair is the VANNI Award for eyewear #artistroom, established by the VANNI eyewear brand and now in its third edition. The award, dedicated to the artist whose work most effectively offers an original perspective of reality, opening up (like a lens) to reveal an unexpected and surprising view, was conferred on Saturday 4 November to Elisa Alberti, the artist presented by the Krobath Gallery in Vienna.

The reasoning behind the choice of winner

The winner was selected by a jury composed of Lucia Aspesi (curator, Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milano), Giuseppe Fantasia (journalist, Rome), and Annalia Venezia (journalist, Milan) for the following reasons: “For her skill in creating works characterised by simple geometric shapes, and soft monochrome surfaces. For her polyphonic lexicon in which colours (almost always two, three at most) stand out on surfaces that fill spaces where experimentalism and otherwise co-exist to incite emotion. Her acrylic paintings, abstract and minimalist, create our own world where each of us can recognise ourselves in some way.

The limited edition capsule

The winner not only receives a cash prize to the value of 2,500 euro but also has the opportunity to design and collaborate on a capsule collection of artistic eyewear which will be produced in a limited edition series.

Following the first capsule collection by Cristian Chironi and Catalin Pislaru, in 2022 Teresa Giannico (Viasaterna Gallery, Milan) presented the third project for the creation of two new Vanni sunglasses models at Artissima 2023 in the VANNI showroom of Piazza Carlina in Turin.
