Nike Maxsight at opticians' stores in the fall
The Food and Drug Administration, the American association that controls the quality standards of food products and pharmaceuticals and authorizes their sale, has approved the distribution on the US market of Nike Maxsight (polymacon) contact lenses, the new Sport-Tinted soft lenses from Bausch & Lomb.
The new contact lenses have already obtained the CE symbol for sale in Europe. The presence of Nike in the name and description of Sport-Tinted lenses is an immediate indication that these contact lenses are colored, not for aesthetic reasons, but in order to improve the sight performance of people doing sports. In addition, the Nike Maxsight lenses are indicated for correcting myopia and hypermetropia and are for daily use.
The Nike Maxsight Sport-Tinted lenses have been specifically designed to improve vision acuity, performance that is essential for many sports disciplines. The patented Light Architecture optics geometry allows Nike Maxsight lenses to filter and select specific wavelengths within the sight spectrum to improve the identification of the most important visual elements, such as a ball or a background, and at the same time to reduce annoying glare from the sun in outdoor sports.
The partnership between Nike and Bausch & Lomb for the development of a new colored contact lens for sports people began three years ago. In addition to co-developments, Bausch & Lomb will also produce and sell lenses to opticians and contactologists. Nike, on the other hand, will be responsible for marketing activities aimed at the end-user.
In Europe, Bausch & Lomb will be introducing Nike Maxsight Sport-Tinted lenses to opticians' stores starting next fall and initially they will be available in two colors: gray-green, specifically designed for outdoor sports in the sun, such as golf and running; amber, for sports where there is rapid ball movement in variable light conditions, such as soccer, rugby, tennis and baseball.
