Mido: simply the world's biggest eyewear show

Mido is back again this year, for the last time , at the Fieramilanocity pavilions in central Milan. The 36th exhibition is bigger than ever before, with an ever broader and attention-grabbing spectrum of offerings: theme areas, training, focus on innovation, and always with a keen eye on the latest trends and fashions. This exhibition is a unique product showcase. It is a premier event that hosts leading exhibitors from Italy and across the globe.

A total of 1,200 exhibitors, more than 60% from other countries, are expected. This explains why it is the preferred choice for many companies wishing to offer a preview of the new ranges and designer brands that make their official debut into the eyewear world at no other place than Mido.

'Each year, Mido is the preferred exhibition for buyers and trade people from around the world because it offers the largest and most wide-ranging spectrum of products for industry and because it is an important business generator and an invaluable international showcase for exhibitors', said Cirillo Marcolin, President of Mido, during the opening press conference.

Hundreds of thousands of pairs of eyewear, sunglasses and prescription frames, for men and women, for children and sports people, traditional or innovative, this is what the exhibition is all about: a truly complete overview of everything that the eyewear industry has to offer, including special products (helmets, shields, cases, eyewear holders), machinery and lenses.

Mido 2006 is two-track: on the one hand, it is future-oriented and constantly focused on anticipating events, on the other, it holds on fast to its deep-rooted tradition. Two sides of the same coin: Mido will be returning with the same theme areas, but also likes to 'update them', revamp them each year and make them more modern and functional.

The not-to-be-missed Mido Trend area (Pav. 16/II) has been confirmed with its full roster of all the trendsetting products, an exclusive vantage point that sets and in some cases, anticipates the eyewear of the future. Mido Tech (Pav. 19) is all innovation-focused, and as the 'technological' corner of the exhibition, the largest exhibition space in the world for technologies, machinery and raw materials, where you can find everything that you need for eyewear production. The space will be filled with more than 150 exhibitors from across the world, presenting the latest developments and those still to come.In 2006 Mido Kids and Sport will be sharing the same space in the gallery connector between pavilions 15 and 14 where products - for children and sports people - (eyewear, cases, helmets, ski goggles, and eyewear holders) will be showcased in transparent Plexiglas cylinders. Various kinds of fragrances will be sprayed into the two areas to convey the idea of eyewear for children, or for sports people such as strawberry chewing gum or talcum powder. The smell of freshly mown grass in a golf course, or sea water during a regatta. It's up to the visitor to guess the smell.

Another objective of Mido 2006 is professional trainin, with 30 CME (Continuing Medical Education) accredited courses held by national and international experts.

But the big news for visitors at this year's exhibition can be found in the gallery connector between Pavilions 16 and 15: an entire area dedicated to the exhibition complex at Rho - Pero, which will be the new venue for Mido 2007. An ad hoc area, to 'help' exhibitors and visitors become familiar with the new venue, but, most importantly for an exclusive presentation of all the benefits and services. You are all invited to visit the area and discover what is lying in store for you at Mido 2007.

One of the must-attend appointments at Mido 2006 is slated for Sunday, 7 May at noon, Sala Bolaffio (Pav. 16, Timpano) for the presentation of the Eyesight Communications Consortium, which groups companies from the Anfao Lenses Group primarily, and to introduce the first advertising campaign on progressive lenses planned for October 2006.
