Safilo presents Code of Ethics
World leader for top-of-range and luxury eyewear Safilo Group yesterday presented its Code of Ethics. Approved by the Board of Directors of Safilo Group S.p.A. on March 28th, the document deals with the principles of behavioral and relational loyalty, integrity, transparency and correctness that must be adopted within the company and with regard to third parties.
''Acting according to strict ethical principles' stated Vittorio Tabacchi, Safilo Group Chairman 'is a vital approach for a company to operate properly and for its credibility toward its shareholders, employees, clients and suppliers. These are values the Safilo Group has always upheld; this is why we drafted a Code of Ethics.
The formal adoption of the Code conveys the wish to share the fundamental moral values at the basis of a company's business with all those who collaborate with the Group. Applying the criteria of the Code also means increasing Safilo's prestige and reliability throughout the world, transforming the knowledge and appreciation of these values into a competitive advantage.'
The Code of Ethics will be distributed to Safilo employees and collaborators in Italy, to the 28 subsidiaries abroad, the members of the Board of Directors and the Board of Statutory Auditors and to all those who collaborate with the Group.
The Code of Ethics governs the Group's business management relationships in accordance with the law and maximum transparency, clarity, correctness and efficiency with regard to shareholders, clients, suppliers, employees, competitors, the media and the public administration.
Among the basic values to be pursued, the Safilo Group also identifies: the correctness and transparency of the company's financial statements, protection of the environment, physical integrity of and moral respect for collaborators, and a healthy and safe workplace. Safilo already applies the principles of the ''Declaration of Principles and Fundamental Labor rights'' adopted in 1998 by the International OIL (International Labor Organization) Conference, specifically with regard to hard labor, trade union membership, child labor and the exploitation of minors, and discrimination in the workplace.
All these values must also be shared and adopted by the Group's suppliers.
