3D eyewear also for Certottica

3D eyewear also for Certottica

High culture, company and multi-district networks, avant-garde processes and products: these are the essential points of the event “Education, research and innovation: inescapable factors for company competitiveness”, promoted by Certottica at the CosMo Center – the Eyewear Museum at Pieve di Cadore – last Tuesday with special patron Regional Councilor Elena Donazzan.

Presented specifically at the event was the recently concluded study “Reality increased by three-dimensional vision: analysis and development of frames for 3D glasses” (Italian regional law 8/2003 - Meas. 2, notification 2009), carried out in partnership with the Fedon Group, which designed a case for recharging 3D glasses, and FOVS, which will carry out the production process and the design of the frame.

“The Region will increasingly aim at promoting projects of this type” commented Councilor Donazzan “that are represented either by different companies working in synergy on development or by clusters of companies, with the aim of creating employment. Politics must be neither invasive nor interfering and must have the capacity to synthesize for the wellbeing of the community”.

Thanks to the invaluable assistance of Mr. Callisto Fedon, Dolomiticert and Certottica are moving in this direction and have strengthened the relationship with Luca Businaro, President of Assosport, and Alessandro Vardanega, President of Unindustria Treviso, to reach a mutual agreement centered in the Piave area that will allow skills to be shared and will benefit all the territories involved.

The occasion was also useful for reiterating the determination to support another strategic initiative for the Eyewear District: “If we are here today”, Boito continued “it is also because the CosMo Center must become the headquarters of the most prestigious school of design in this cluster. Here, with the strong evidence of the manufacturing history of our territory, we must initiate a procedure that prepares smart creative people who can predict trends and meet the needs of the market. “By her presence, the Councilor” Boito added “has demonstrated her willingness to support us and we are aware that it is only with this support that we can close the gap in our area, that is marginal and distant from the main road infrastructures and fashion centers”.
The productive introduction was followed by Certottica researcher Giuseppe Da Cortà, who underscored the support that the Institute unfailingly provides for companies and also the progress made in recent years: “Our processes are technologically advanced thanks to the synergy with universities, research centers and companies. Recently, we have also worked in the field of ‘eyewear and electronics’, such as three-dimensional vision, and treatments. Certottica has researched the use of laser for depositing and cold plasma for surfaces. There have been important innovations in the engineering and chemical aspects and the laboratory has become an avant-garde center for experimenting with these treatments for metal and plastic surfaces”.

Callisto Fedon, President of the Group of the same name, said: “By changing habits and increasing knowledge, every system strengthens the ability to develop. By intercepting the signals from the market and translating requirements, also from an educational point of view, Certottica supports companies along this road”. Fedon closed the meeting by putting forward the concept of “innovation” as perceived by his company: “Innovation means making the best interpretation of external signals, also by adapting the company and services to new needs, not just products. Innovation also means creating an advantage, being able to handle resources, and sometimes it also means saving. We are currently working on the ecological aspect of our production. As the materials we need in this sector are few and extremely expensive, we are experimenting primarily with reducing sizes and using smaller amounts of material: this implies packaging containment, smaller stocks and, as a consequence, greater energy saving. For some time now our packing policy has been oriented toward ecology: our boxes are made from recycled cardboard and they are not as colorful as they used to be”.
