Full Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Milan Bicocca. He was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences at the University of Milan Bicocca. Director of the Department of Materials Science at the University of Milan Bicocca.
 In 2016 he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus by the Minister of Education, University and Research.
He proposed and supervised the establishment of the first degree course in Optics and Optometry in Italy (active since 2001 at the University of Milan-Bicocca).
 Since 2015 he has been Director of the University Centre for Research in Optics and Optometry at the University of Milan
