Good vision is critical to the safe operation of a car or truck. Advances in automotive technology have led to devices and designs that can enhance the vision of drivers, reduce blind spots, and perhaps even reduce vehicle crash rates.
In keeping with its goal of perfecting vision and enhancing life, Bausch & Lomb, the eye health company, is joining with the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology to sponsor The Eye and The Auto 2003 World Congress June 19-21 at the Ford Motor Company Conference & Event Center in Dearborn, Mich. The Eye and The Auto is a biennial international conference that examines the relationship between vision and the safe operation of motorized vehicles.
The congress will bring together more than 30 of the world's leading authorities from engineering, medicine, automotive manufacturing, societal organizations, academia and government research centers for a comprehensive look at how and what we see while driving.

The congress will focus on three general areas:
The vehicle operator (vision, cerebration, attention, distraction);
The technology and hazards presented by the vehicle (automotive design, blind spots, mirror systems, window glass performance);
Environmental matters controllable by society (sign colors and contrast, road illumination, vehicle headlights, night vision systems).
