Braille Labels on Consumer Goods
In the Swiss canton Ticino (and simultaneously at Lucerne) an important initiative begins today to help the blind: consumer goods, and in particular food and hygiene products, will have labels in Braille.
The aim is to give blind or partially-sighted consumers more independence when it comes to their day-to-day marketing requirements. The project, which will soon also involve trans-border areas, is the result of a collaboration between Unitas (Italian Switzerland association for the blind), and the printers Bettini of Segrino and Pgrr of Genestrerio, which produce the Braille labels, as well as the Migros retail chain.
The service is active throughout Ticino and there are about 200 products with the Braille labels.
