Certottica: new technical committee on allergens

Aimed at investigating problems associated with the methods of analyzing allergens, Certottica recently hosted the first general meeting of experts from the technical committees of Anfao, Associazione Nazionale Fabbricanti Articoli Ottici, chaired by the newly-elected Enrico Tormen, who was introduced and presented by the General Manager of Certottica, Luigino Boito.

The meeting was enriched by the authoritative presence of experts, Marco Dal Canton, dermatologist, and Dario De Marco, ophthalmologist, whose professional contributions were highly appreciated.

The scope of the new committee, explained the manager of Certottica, is to prepare Cen (European Committee for Standardization) documents on the analytical methods applicable to known allergens contained in materials and products, and is specifically aimed at supporting European Union directives regarding the release of nickel from precious metals, costume jewelry and the metal objects used for piercing or which come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin.

The secretariat for the technical committee, called CEN/TC 347 'Methods of analysis of allergens', will be run by the Swedish standards body, Sis, and over the next few months it will prepare a Business Plan with all the study proposals and the relevant reasons and justifications.
