France: contact lens market grows
Syffoc's (Syndicat des Fabricants et Fournisseurs d'Optique de Contact) six-monthly statistics have shown that for the first time the French contact lens market has exceeded 100 million euros, an increase of 6% compared to the first six months of last year.
Revenues from traditional contact lenses remain stable, with hard lenses rising and soft lenses falling in terms of value. Frequent-change soft contact lenses represent 69% of the total market. The sales of daily contact lenses currently exceed those of the traditional type.
The division by category is as follows: spherical 64.3%, toric 18.9%, multifocal 9%, colored 7.8%. In detail, cosmetic contact lenses have increased by 32%, multifocals by 23% and toric by 14%.
As far as lens care products are concerned, this is growing faster than the lens market thanks to the good performance of frequent change lenses: oxidants, historically a segment on the decline, have recorded +13.8% since the beginning of the year.
