Esa: review on the yearly conference

Nearly 60 participants did take the opportunity to come to Esa's Yearly Conference 2004 which took place for the 10th time this year from 3 to 5 June at Lake Chiemsee, Germany. Not only Esa Members and interested companies within the sunglass industry did join the meeting but also associated organisations such as Anfao, Spectaris, Zva, Kuratorium für gutes sehen have been followed the invitation. The following new Esa Members have been welcomed: Bushnell Group, Moldsolutions and Younger Optics Europe.

Due to a close relationship to the Sunglass Association of America, Ken Frederick, President Saa, could be welcomed at the Esa Conference.

Esa's goal for the Yearly Conference was to update the participants on important projects worked out within the various Esa committees:
- Presentation on Directives & Standards;
- The future of RX Lenses? Roundtable of keyplayers within the industry at the Esa Conference: Essilor, Rodenstock, Sola and Younger Optics;
- UV Protection - how to increase the public awareness - Commissione Difesa Vista Italy;
- Market Survey Europe - overview retail panel & consumer survey Gfk;
- Quantitative overview american sunglass market - 2003 including first quarter 2004;
- General Activities such as the new communication tools website, flyer;
- Forecasted Esa projects.

But the Conference program was not only focused on topics within the industry. Mainly in management aeras such as marketing, sales and finance leading companies from other industries have been invitated to inform Esa Members on latest developments:
- Fashion Retail Channels in the new eastern European Countries through the European Fashion & Textile Export Council;
- Private Equity: how to invest in prosperous projects and companies;
- Modern Communication Strategies - Bbdo Interone International;
- Fashion & Trend Preview 2005.

One of the highlights was the speach from Prof. Dr. Charlotte Remé, Group Leader of the Laboratory of Retinal Cell Biology at the University Hospital Zurich. Her presentation on light-induced eye deseases with latest research results on blue light brought most relevant information to the auditorium of conference.

Due to the support of Luxottica Esa could present an attractive film presenting the successful climb of Makalu through Giampaolo Corona and its italian expedition team.
