Mido 2004: visitor success (+46%)
The 34th edition of Mido, the main international review dedicated to the eyewear sector, closed on Sunday. 37,134 visitors, 60% of whom came from abroad, a total upturn of 46% compared to the four days of the 2003 edition, crowded into the pavilions at the Fair from May 7 through 9.
An extremely positive result in terms of the Italian (+68.5%) and foreign public (+34.4%) for an event that reconfirms its leadership on the global scene and which for the first time presented a new three-day formula compared to the traditional four days.
Cirillo Marcolin, President of Mido said he was pleased: 'It promised to be positive and now I am happy to be able to say that this result is a turning point for the entire sector in international terms. The hoped-for recovery in consumption is underway and I believe we can have faith in the future of our sector. The number of visitors was greater, not only compared to the 2003 edition, but it even exceeded the average for the last five years.'
Apart from a 7.5% rise in the number of exhibitors (to 1,203), the increase in visitors was also due to operator interest in the new Mido formula. 'We recorded hundreds of enrolments for the Mido Education courses', Marcolin continued, 'and the Mido Sport area was very much appreciated by everybody. I would like to thank the entire Mido staff, because I believe that the credit for this result is due not only to a change in the dynamics of the world's economy, it is also and especially due to the professionalism of those who have been working hard to ensure that the exhibition was a success. We have in store many more ideas to be developed and we are already working on next year's event.'
The appointment for 2005 is as always at the Fiera Milano pavilions, from May 6 through 8.
