Open doors at the Eyewear Museum

The Eyewear Museum's stand at the International Antiques Fair in MilanThe Eyewear Museum at Pieve di Cadore is also taking part in International Museum Day organized for May 18 every year since 1977 by the International Council of Museums - Comitato Nazionale Italiano. Open doors and free entrance to the Museum, which has had a reasonable flow of visitors overall and also arranges guided tours.

The day was dedicated to the theme 'Museums and Intangible Heritage', a choice that allowed the Museum at Pieve di Cadore to highlight the cultural, historical and social value of objects that are part of tradition but which also have a strong contemporary value.

The Eyewear Museum was opened in 1990 at Pieve di Cadore, since 1878 the home of this medical accessory which over the years has become a fashion accessory. The collection on show at the Museum consists of over 3,000 pairs, some of them extremely valuable, which merited participation in this year's International Antiques Fair in Milan.

Since 1996 the Museum has been run by the 'Fondazione Museo dell'Occhiale onlus' whose members are, in addition to the trade associations, the Belluno Chamber of Commerce, the Magnifica Comunità di Cadore, the Comunità Montana Centro Cadore, the Province of Belluno and the labor organization. Since February this year there has also been an Internet site www.museodellocchiale.it, which is managed and hosted by EyesWay.
