Safilo at Genoa's Museum of Contemporary Art

Safilo at Genoa's Museum of Contemporary Art

The Safilo Group will enter a museum of contemporary art on the occasion of the 'Normali meraviglie. Una mappa di piccole fantasie' exhibition to be held in Genoa - European Capital of Culture 2004 - until September 5 at the Museo di Arte Contemporanea of Villa Croce - Magazzini del Cotone.

On show will be a collection of numerous objects that interact with people's 'private' lives. Objects that have been created to improve the quality of life and which then acquire a life of their own. The exhibition conveys this paradox by providing each object with a spirit that is linked to its function. A map of 'things' that surround us even though we are sometimes unaware of them; beautiful objects that inadvertently influence our daily lives.

There are three models on show which represent the style and history of the Safilo Group.

Igor PolarThe Igor Polar glasses with the Carrera label: made in grilamid, they are extremely strong, flexible and crushproof; they are distinctive because of the polar-C lenses that reduce reflections thanks to the polarized filter, and they guarantee minimum contrast in unfavorable weather conditions.

The Prodigy Turbo ski goggles from Smith: fitted with a micro electronic fan (Smith patent) to ensure vision without misting.

Lastly, glasses that have made history: the Sayonara model from the Emilio Pucci collection. Made in 1968 from fabrics by the famous Florentine stylist, they are one of the first examples of 'designer' eyewear.
