Safilo in Austria for Special Olympics
From December 5 through 8, 2003, Murau hosted the 'Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia Healthy Athletes Event' in which Safilo actively participated in conjunction with the company's contribution to the program known as 'Special Olympics-Lions Club International Opening Eyes' (Solcioe).
Since the beginning of last year, Safilo has been involved in this project which focuses on giving athletes with learning disabilities the opportunity to improve their vision through a series of free eye screenings and the donation of glasses (Safilo will donate to the Special Olympics athletes, 11,000 ophthalmic frames and 20,000 pairs of sunglasses every year for three years).
For the event in Murau, Safilo donated 125 ophthalmic frames for adults, 25 ophthalmic frames for children, and 100 pairs of sunglasses to the athletes who competed in the ski races and who took part in the eye screenings in the area dedicated to the 'Opening Eyes' program.
The event also featured the organization of a seminar for doctors and specialists from 20 European countries: the athletes therefore had the opportunity to take part in free screenings carried out by optometrists, dentists, otorhinolaryingologists and psychotherapists.
