Usa: sequesters of fake eyewear on the increase

US Customs and Border Protection has published data on the sequester of fake consumer goods for tax year 2003 (from October 2002 through September 2003), which show an increase of 12.2%. This figure is also the highest since 1999.

Over the last seven years sunglasses have rapidly climbed up the ladder of the top ten consumer goods held by US authorities and in tax year 2003 the value of impounded goods was 1,381 million dollars, up 28% compared to tax year 2002. In terms of value, over 91% of the sequestered eyewear came from China.
