Indo adheres to the Un's Global Compact
Indo has adhered to the Global Compact, an initiative promoted by the United Nations through which companies take on the ethical commitment to make the ten principles of conduct and action in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption an integral part of their corporate strategy.
The Global Compact seeks to promote the creation of a global corporate citizenship that provides for the reconciliation of business interests and processes with the values and demands of civil society, as well as the projects of the UN, international labour organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The pact involves a commitment to set objectives to improve and establish new indicators that make it possible to control progress in the area of social responsibility so that the principles of the Global Compact form part of companies' culture and day-to-day actions, and that the mechanisms for dialogue and continuous improvement are established.
In the area of corporate social responsibility, Indo has for many years made a firm commitment to socially responsible corporate management. Indo collaborates with different local and international communities and organizations to donate products, lenses and glasses, and joins forces with NGOs that work to protect the visual health of the most underprivileged members of society.
As part of the company's social commitment to its own employees, training courses are offered throughout the year. Indo has also defined a policy designed to prevent industrial risks at all its work centres. Special care has been taken at the company's factories in countries where labour protection is not as advanced as in Spain. In these cases, some of the rights guaranteed to Indo employees are not even addressed in those countries' legislation. Some examples include a medical service for employees and their family members in Morocco and a limit to the number of work hours per day in China and Thailand, among others.
Indo is also working to reduce the environmental impact of its activities by obtaining certification for environmental standard ISO 14001 at all its centres. Another area of activity involves offering technical and sales training to its clients. Transparency is also promoted in communications with shareholders and the relationship with suppliers is based on a fair and ethical approach.
