Intercast unveils new Active Sport eyewear prototypes at Mido

Active Sport, the new collection of eyewear prototypes made in Nxt and unveiled at Mido 2005, reaffirms the strong partnership between Intercast Europe and the Research Center of the European Institute of Design (Ied Centro Ricerche).

The prototypes launched at Mido 2004, Mantide and Helsinki, previously demonstrated a few of the many exceptional possibilities that Nxt offers to eyewear manufacturers and designers for both eyewear performance and design innovation.

This year's Nxt Active Sport prototypes have been developed as a response to the risks of impacts in sports such as sailing, cycling, skiing and soccer. All this is made possible by the successful combination of Nxt's characteristics of reliability and resistance to stress and impact, that guarantees comfort and safety to the end user.

The overall design of the prototypes has been conceived to allow the posterior part of the mask, made by thermoforming and cutting the Nxt Soft material, to integrate with an elastomeric bridge coupled to a fastening band that secures the mask.

Through a highly innovative thermoforming process, only possible due to Nxt's outstanding mechanical characteristics, a spoiler has been created in the lower area, which leans on the cheekbones and on the sides of the nose, allowing for stability and shock absorption during impacts. The exceptional lightweight is due to the use of Nxt Soft and the absence of hinge joints.

The Active Sport range includes two versions: Aurora Basic, entirely made in Nxt Soft, and Aurora Cube, made with two different formulations of Nxt Soft, Nxt Soft 54 and Nxt Soft 70, the first used for the frame, the latter for the lenses.

Aurora Basic has been conceived to combine lenses and frame into a singular entity to achieve extraordinary lightness and comfort.

Aurora Cube has been conceived to allow extreme modularity and the use of polarized and photochromic lenses made in Nxt Soft. Its combination of materials with different flexibility also provides the ultimate comfort and performance.

Intercast Europe is owner of the patent rights for the Aurora, Mantide and Helsinki models.
