Lance Armstrong and Annika Sorenstam Athletes of the Year
Lance Armstrong and Annika Sorenstam, two of Oakley's sponsored athletes, were named by The Associated Press Male and Female Athletes of the Year 2004.
Armstrong took the world by storm as he won his record-breaking sixth consecutive Tour de France in July. This marks the third consecutive year that Armstrong has taken home the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year award, this year earning the title with 51 first-place votes and 312 total points.
Sorenstam took home the prestigious Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year title with 40 first-place votes and 263 total points. In 2004 she won yet another major, was the leading money winner on the Lpga Tour and won half of the 20 events that she entered.
'Lance and Annika are phenomenons in their disciplines', commented Scott Bowers, Oakley Vice President of Marketing. 'We are proud to provide equipment and support for them as they continue to achieve career milestones', Bowers concluded.
Oakley and Armstrong recently renewed the cyclist's eyewear endorsement contract for an additional three years. Sorenstam has endorsed Oakley eyewear since 1995.
