Netherlands: upturn in imports from Italy
According to data from Holland's Central Statistics Office (CBS) regarding the January-May 2005 period, compared to the same period 2004 the Netherlands' trading figures showed a strong increase in imports (+8.3%), a total of over 97 billion euros, and in exports (+10.1%), a total of 112 billion euros.
In the classification of Dutch imports, Italy is confirmed at ninth place with a value of 2.5 billion euros (2.6% of the total) and a 2.9% increase compared to the same period last year. For Dutch exports, Italy is in fifth place with a value of 6.5 billion euros (5.8% of the total), an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period 2004. Although the bilateral deficit is still extremely high, the export results are confirmation of the positive trend that had already been recorded at the end of last year.
On the basis of Istat data processed by Ice, the main products exported from Italy during the period were: pharmaceuticals and chemical products (+22.76%), apparel in fabric and accessories (+4.93%), machinery and appliances for the production and use of mechanical power (-3.92). The main products imported by Italy were: office equipment, computers and IT systems (+7.13%), basic chemical products (+18.35%), tobacco and tobacco-based products (+49.96%).
