Optometrygivingsight Netherlands officially launched

A few days ago the Dutch Optometrygivingsight organization was officially launched. Optometrygivingsight is an international fundraising project of the ambitious Vision 2020 The Right To Sight campaign, whose goal is to eliminate the main causes of avoidable blindness and impaired vision before the year 2020.

Vision 2020 is a campaign of the World Health Organization together with 26 other organizations worldwide. National Optometrygivingsight projects are launched to raise funds and help achieving the goals. The Netherlands, where about 250.000 people suffer from impaired vision or blindness, are one of the first countries with an Optometrygivingsight organization.

Worldwide there is about 37 million blind people and 124 million with impaired vision. 1,5 million children suffer from blindness mainly because of a lack of Vitamin A.

Most of these problems can be relatively simply prevented or cured with a worldwide effort and funds. Later this year all Dutch members will receive a package with posters, leaflets, a collection box for in the shop or the waiting room, reading tests with information about Ogs-NL and Vision 2020 and ideas and advices to organize promotions and raise more money.

The first sponsor to sign a contract during the first meeting at Nieuwegein was Essilor.
