Alfonso Cuarón wins 'Persol Style Award'
The 'Persol Style Award' goes to an international director competing at the Venice Film Festival who has stood out for the values that have identified the brand's unmistakable style since 1917. The Persol style represents the values of Italy's genuine tradition of handmade articles which make Persol the unrivaled reference for prestigious accessories.
Based on the novel by P.D. James, 'Children of Men', the movie has huge emotional strength and considerable aesthetic harmony. Set in 2027, it is a tough and disquieting story, but Alfonso Cuarón has proved to be able to elegantly combine 'strong' and gritty narration with messages of love and hope and to move from the highly realistic presentation of conflict to the desperate poetry of salvation, through the use of innovative direction techniques and technology.
Two souls in perfect tune with the Persol brand, an icon of design and quality thanks to a unique tradition that began in Turin in the Twenties and has continued through the search for increasingly cutting-edge technological and stylistic solutions for vision protection and perfection.
These qualities and features have made Persol the favorite choice of celebrities in the movie and international star system who have opted for the fascination of Persol glasses and have contributed to making them 'the glasses par excellence' with very strong emotional appeal.
The name of the 'Persol Style Award' winner was selected by a high-ranking jury.
The members of the jury included personalities from the brand's various reference sectors, such as contemporary and international movies, journalism, design and culture: Alessandro Gassman, representing Italian movie talent, Michele Lupi, GQ Director of the CondeNast Group, Claudio Masenza, member of the selection committee for movies taking part in the 63rd Film Festival, and Pontus Walgren, senior industrial designer at IDEO, the leader of innovative design.
The Persol Jury, the president of the Biennial Foundation, Davide Croff, and the Artistic Director of the Venice Film Festival, Marco Muller will present the Award annually.
Antonio Miyakawa, Executive Vice-President of the Luxottica Group, said: 'The Persol style represents the values of Italy's genuine tradition of handmade articles.
Persol is the unrivaled reference for prestigious Made in Italy accessories and, for us, Venice provides the perfect backdrop for honoring movie talent that best expresses the style of a brand that has made eyewear history'.
