Certottica materials database now online

Certottica's new Innovative Materials website for the eyewear and other sectors is now online.

Available to companies, the website is a permanent window on innovative materials that can be used in a variety of industries. After registering, the user can search the database of materials by key words, codes, categories or characteristics. The completed search gives detailed technical information about the various materials and a technical data sheet in PDF format can be requested.

The other services currently offered by the database are:
- collection of data on problems related to materials already used and on characteristics requested by companies;
- consultation of the descriptions of filed materials;
- consultation of the other innovative materials (not filed) on hardcopy;
- consultation of technical data sheets, requests for more detailed technical information, requests for samples and material suppliers;
- consultancy service for materials with specific characteristics;
- research commissions for experiments on materials and possible laboratory tests.

The Certottica database had a great success for three reasons:
- special focus on the eyewear sector; many of the materials that have been inserted take into account the requirements of this industrial segment;
- the importance given to the applicability of materials to industrial processes through tests and experiments at the companies' premises;
- the low costs of the services offered and linked to high potential for innovation for the interested company.

Currently, the database has filed and collected around 200 materials with the relevant technical characteristics. The plan is to increase the number of materials, extend them to other industrial segments, to be followed by an experimental stage in order to understand the characteristics of these materials during production processes. The aim of the project is to transfer a material from one industrial sector to another without any exceptions whatsoever.
