Farewell to Oleg Cassini
Oleg Cassini, the designer who contributed to creating the unforgettable style of former First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, and many Hollywood stars, died last Friday at the age of 92.
Cassini's widow, Marianne, said that the designer died of a cerebral hemorrhage in a Long Island hospital.
Born in Paris in April 1913 to an Italian countess and a Russian diplomat, Cassini grew up in Italy and worked in a Rome boutique before moving to the United States in 1936. That same year, he began designing costumes for Hollywood movie studios and continued to dress some of Hollywood's most famous stars, including Natalie Wood, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Gene Tierney. His creations included eyewear, bathing costumes and shoes.
