Mido 2006 is No.1 at +6.3% in attendance figures

The 36th Mido - held 5-8 May at the FieroMilancity pavilions - ended on a very positive note with 42,000 visitors, up by 6.3% over 2005. This year's exhibition was a great success among visitors, which is a testament to the fact that a worldwide recovery is underway in the eyewear industry.

As in the past, the event was a huge success among the 26,331 overseas visitors, whose number grew by 9.9% over 2005. Noteworthy also is the 0.5% increase posted for Italian trade people who totalled 15,407 unlike the previous sessions which had recorded falling attendance figures. During this year's 4-day event the busiest day was Sunday, 7 May when the exhibition was visited by 12,981 attendees (equal to +7% for Italian trade people and +15.3 for overseas professionals).

Exhibitors also noted and commented on the recovery and, at the end of the exhibition, were satisfied with the business contacts and orders that were made during the fair. This is an important sign that the Milan exhibition continues to be a premier event for the vision community across the world, especially international buyers and the press.

'We are very satisfied with these results which far exceed even our highest expectations', stated Mido President, Cirillo Marcolin. 'International data had already forecast this worldwide market growth of more than 10% amounting to a business volume of more than € 6 billion. The second important piece of news is that Mido -- the No.1 international eyewear exhibition in the world which is uniquely positioned to represent and play host to the entire industry - saw its attendance figures sky-rocket to a record of almost 42,000 visitors. This noteworthy result will definitely be repeated next year, from 4 to 7 May 2007, at the new exhibition complex in Rho-Pero'.

Expectations are growing over this relocation - after 36 years - to a new exhibition complex on the outskirts of Milan that can finally offer all exhibitors an opportunity to power up their image, and a unique chance to innovate and launch new interesting promotional campaigns for their products.

Mido carried out a quick survey among exhibitors and journalists who were able to visit the new exhibition center in Rho-Pero during Mido. They were all very enthusiastic about this big quality step as well as the fact that they will finally have a truly modern location with numerous innovative services at their disposal. The new complex offers more services, more functional spaces, and fast and easy transportation to central Milan, with the subway line arriving directly inside the exhibition grounds. The road network has also been further expanded to make road transportation even faster. A change that offers a great deal of untapped potential and that exhibitors - and visitors - cannot wait to take advantage of. And everybody was able to see that the 10 km separating Fieramilanocity from the new Fieramilano pavilions is just 5 minutes away by car or bus.

See you at the next Mido from 4 to 7 May 2007, to celebrate the new venue.
