Porsche Design to expand retail presence in the Usa
The Porsche Design Group has opened the first flagship store of Porsche Design in New York City. The 1,724 square foot store is located in a prime location in Manhattan's General Motors Building on the Madison Avenue side, as part of the landmark building's street level retail expansion.
The company currently has six of its own stores worldwide (Berlin, Hamburg, London, New York City, Beverly Hills and Costa Mesa, CA) and eleven franchise stores. According to Dr. Siegmund Rudigier, President & CEO of the Porsche Design Group, 30 stores in total are due to emerge in the near future. In the U.S., Porsche Design will continue to expand in major markets.
The new Porsche Design Store in New York was developed by the Porsche Design Group, together with Italian architect Matteo Thun and Munich-based corporate design agency KMS. The new store concept was inaugurated in Berlin in January 2005 and is being rolled out worldwide.
Stores such as the one in New York City will carry the entire product range of Porsche Design and communicate the brand idea and philosophy. Further distribution channels are franchise stores, shop-in-shops, upscale department stores and exclusive specialty stores.
Porsche Design offers classic men's accessories such as timepieces, eyewear (produced by Rodenstock), pocket knives, writing tools, jewellery, luggage and leather goods, as well as smoking accessories. This product range is currently extended to include fashion, sport, furniture and electronic products.
