ReNu Moister Loc: details about voluntary withdrawal
A daily newspaper erroneously stated recently that ReNu with MoisterLoc, which Bausch & Lomb had voluntary decided to withdraw from the world market, was in effect still available.
As far as Bausch & Lomb is aware, it has not been possible to buy ReNu MoistureLoc since May last: the voluntary and fairly extensive withdrawal (200,000 pieces) was completed with the supervision and collaboration of the Ministry for Health and NAS national police.
Despite the immediate publication of an apology by the newspaper, Bausch & Lomb would like to point out the following in order to avoid misunderstandings and unjustifiably alarming consumers.
MoistureLoc was part of the ReNu line, a label that identifies the range of Bausch & Lomb single solutions and best-sellers throughout the world. After the voluntary withdrawal of the MoistureLoc solution, the only ones now available on the market are the other two solutions in the ReNu line: ReNu MultiPlus and ReNu Soluzione Unica. These two solutions, which have a different formula to MoistureLoc, have been on the market for several years and have always been effective and absolutely safe.
Bausch & Lomb points out that the withdrawal of ReNu with MoistureLoc was voluntary and was not imposed by any authorities. The decision was taken as a preventive measure in response, from a statistical point of view, to the incidence of Fusarium infection in MoistureLoc users. The incidence of this infection in MoistureLoc users is, however, very low, approximately 0.0001%, but Bausch & Lomb decided in any case to take this serious and responsible decision to avoid even the slightest possibility of risk for patients.
No anomalies have ever been found in the MoistureLoc that was on sale and has since been withdrawn; the product is sterile and responds perfectly to legal specifications, as stated by Under Secretary for Health Cesare Cursi on May 12: 'No anomalies of any kind have been found at the Bausch & Lomb Italian facilities where the contact lens detergent solutions are produced, which are connected with the possible outbreak of the dangerous Fusarium fungus that can cause blindness''. He also underscored that the inspection of the facility at Macherio by experts from the Ministry and the Institute for Health was ''positive''.
Bausch & Lomb continues to offer free replacements to any consumers who might still have ReNu MoistureLoc in their possession. This can be done in two ways: if they go to the optician's where it was bought, they will receive another single solution from the Bausch & Lomb range; or they can ask for reimbursement directly from Bausch & Lomb. Consumers have already been informed about this initiative through advertisements in the national press, but full information is still available by logging on to www.moistureloc.eu/it
