Smith conqueres 2006 Giro d'Italia with Ivan Basso

A very exciting Giro d'Italia come to a close, and a great performance at every stage lead to an amazing victory for Ivan Basso.

Twenty-eight year old Ivan Basso, in his seventh season as leader of Danish team Csc sponsored by Smith Optics (Safilo's sport brand) was the crowd favourite from the beginning and was backed by a great team. The athlete conquered the 89th edition of the Giro d'Italia with 14 days wearing the winning pink jersey.

The Italian rider dominated the entire race throughout the peninsula, pedalling with an unstoppable rhythm.
