Results of an interesting conference by Mido Education

Compared with 2005, the number of presbyopic patients has increased as has the number of people who correct their visual disorder, but the problem of awareness of progressive lenses remains: in fact, the number of people who give it the right definition is decreasing. This is the result of a study conducted by C.R.A. and presented yesterday during the conference on 'Progressive lenses, future prospects' held at Mido Education.

The conference, which was attended by a large and interested public, dealt with very scientific topics and other marketing-related issues. Abati, Fusi and Farini presented the lens types available on the market, Pintus and Fossetti discussed prescription techniques, selecting patients and eyewear assembly, Seclì focused on prescriptions for non-presbyopic patients and Muzzarelli illustrated the essential relational skills for opticians/optometrists to effectively communicate the added value of progressives.

Communication, in fact, seems to be crucial for disseminating the use of progressive lenses: word-of-mouth is an important source of knowledge, but the role of TV advertising and advertising campaigns is also becoming more important. This is therefore fundamental when promoting the market of progressive lenses, and here, the role of industry, distribution and associations was addressed by Giulio Velati, President of Federottica, Cyrille de Montvalon, President of Gruppo Lenti Anfao and Consorzio Comunicazione Vista, and Andrea Garagnani, President of Assogruppi Ottica at the end of the conference.
