Presented the Belluno Dolomites Confederation of Italian Industry project has been selected by the Ministry for Economic Development

One of the Made in Italy innovation projects which passed the first evaluation stage in the bid for the “New Technologies for Made in Italy” Industrial Innovation Project called by the Ministry for Economic Development came from Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti (Belluno Dolomites Confederation of Italian Industry).

“From District to supply chain: eyewear and industrial innovation” is the name of the project aimed at creating innovative integrated logistics systems at a cost of 22.5 million euros, which the Ministry passed for the second and last selection scheduled for year-end and concludes with the granting of funds. The Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti program, which is supported by all the major eyewear industries in the district and by many small companies and research centers, provides for the implementation of a platform that will integrate the eyewear supply chain by applying technological information solutions that facilitate relations with all companies.

There are five fields of action which the project must implement to enable the District to grow in terms of technology, information exchange and communication:
1 – guidelines, protocols and supply chain analysis tools
2 – integration of relations between the supply chain and the market
3 – SCM information technology systems and corporate and supply chain logistics
4 – adaptation of corporate information systems
5 – telecommunication tools and remote collaboration

The focal point of the project is the creation of a central IT system that will allow the companies in the supply chain to dialogue and jointly plan activities (large eyewear manufacturers and their suppliers, but also transport and services companies, research centers and universities: the supply chain includes all companies working in the eyewear sector).

Of the 443 projects presented, 267 were selected, including that of Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti; it and the footwear manufacturers were the only trade associations which assembled and led the drawing up of a district innovation project.
“A sign that our Association really takes notice of the territory’s needs and at difficult moments looks ahead and plans for the future”, commented Roberto Chemello, the representative of the Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti Committee. “The project was considered innovative and practical for leading the district toward a more integrated and technological development stage”.

The companies taking part in the project also made a financial commitment: the Ministry’s contribution for small companies will be a maximum of 80% of the planned investment in industrial research and a maximum of 55% for experimental development; medium-sized companies will receive up to 70% of the investment in industrial research and 45% for experimental development. For large companies the percentage will drop to 60% of investment in industrial research and 35% for experimental development.

“Currently, the district has major industrial companies which use advanced IT systems to check orders and logistics and small companies which use different methods that are simpler but a long way from those used by the large companies in terms of organization and language”, underscored Roberto Chemello. “More balanced and better organized communication among the district’s players is a requirement that is genuinely felt and a new solution will be found thanks to this project”.

The companies in the eyewear district which are part of the “From District to supply chain” project are: De Rigo Vision S.p.A. in Longarone, Di Esse Srl in Domegge di Cadore, Galvalux Srl in Pieve di Cadore, Gatto Astucci S.p.A. in Domegge di Cadore, Fedon Giorgio & Figli S.p.A. in Domegge di Cadore, IN.TE.SA, an IBM subsidiary in Turin, Luxol Srl in Lozzo di Cadore, Luxottica Srl in Agordo, Mabel Srl in Perarolo di Cadore, Marcolin S.p.A. in Longarone, M.B.M.
