37th AdOO convention: three days of meetings

“We can’t deny that we have high expectations for a variety of reasons. On the one hand, we want to offer all sector operators an important educational opportunity, and on the other, this convention will send a clear signal of sharing, legitimation and consent that is the expression not just of a group (albeit numerous) of professionals, but also of the different areas that make up our world”. This was how Rossella Fonte, president of the Roll of Optometrists, described to Mido365 the expectations for the upcoming edition of the convention in Bologna April 30 through May 2 titled "Optometry and 3D: vision, new applications and prospects for the future”.

Why was this subject chosen? “The technological revolution of recent years has brought about innovative changes in the “way of seeing” things and 3D is an obvious example: there are many technological implications regarding the capabilities of vision and, as a consequence, those of the market, which are to the advantage of the optical sector”, Ms. Fonte explained. “This is why we could not avoid discussing this very topical subject and the optometrist is one of the key figures and partners par excellence thanks not only to the need for special eyeglasses for this new sector, but also to a series of new implications for vision that could highlight performance issues that have not yet been considered. In fact, this year companies have been engaged in producing technologically advanced eyeglasses and 3D lenses, many of which were presented at Mido and many more will be presented during the Convention".

According to Rossella Fonte "moreover, the Convention aims to demonstrate how the use of 3D can be extended to a variety of applications and different fields such as cinema, photography, tourism, institutions, which will illustrate the potential development of 3D in different markets, the link between these and our profession, and the consequent expansion of the sphere of action of eye care professionals who must skillfully apply this technology.”

What good reason would make optometrists take part in the Convention? “Optometrists” Ms. Fonte replied “must participate because it is a scientific-educational convention which, thanks to the speakers and the subjects discussed, can only be useful and is without doubt one of the most important and prestigious appointments in Italy. It is the annual opportunity to meet colleagues, companies and various other health sector professionals. The interconnection of various disciplines which demonstrates that the optometry profession is flexible, oriented toward inter-disciplines and continually updated.

"In this context, it will also be an important opportunity to evaluate the results of an in-depth and authoritative analysis of market scenarios, from which we can create the guidelines for the near future”, the president of the Roll of Optometrists added and according to whom "the exhibition area (which this year has achieved very important levels) will include a large number of companies so I can say that the 37th convention will be a profitable and useful meeting with companies with regard to relationships and exchanging information. Opportunities for sharing and contact between companies and optometrists are guaranteed and will increase the chance to create relationships, or to strengthen existing ones, to explore potential new professional outlets thanks to the presentation of new products and the most avant-garde technologies. In addition to the educational and technological aspects, the convention will also be an occasion for understanding and interpreting the signals from the market and for sending a strong signal of category unity.
“The opportunity for professional updating and meetings we will provide in Bologna”, Rossella Fonte concluded “will be useful for those who hold dear technological innovation and the continual updating of professional aspects”.
