Famous Oliver Goldsmith Brand Within Reach
Synonymous with distinction, the brand stands for heritage, history and a story Prisme Optical Group has obtained exclusivity for the distribution of Oliver Goldsmith eyewear in Canada and the U.S. Oliver Goldsmith is the third generation of Goldsmiths to have optical design in his blood. It all started in 1926, when his grandfather set up a small workshop in London's Soho district, making real tortoiseshell spectacle frames by hand. His father, in the austerity-minded 1950's, was among the first people to design fashion frames. Oliver Goldsmith joined the family business in 1959 where he was "put through the mill" for five long years before being allowed to design a frame. He then became the man behind all the shock-shaped spectacles and sunglasses that have been framing pretty eyes for many years. Goldsmith was the first person to think of spectacle frames as a fashion accessory (face jewellery) for women and face furniture for men. As a tribute, the Victoria & Albert Museum mounted an exhibition of the three generations' work from 1920s through the 1980s. Oliver Goldsmith now has over five decades of experience in designing spectacle frames. The frames are in acetate and titanium, inspired by his retro collections from 1964 through 1989. Each frame is re-produced individually from archive samples, hand made in Japan. The collection offers 45 models in acetate and eight models in titanium, all available in four to eight unique colours. Among the collection's prestigious clients were HRH Princess Margaret, Lord Snowdon, Princess Grace of Monaco, Peter Sellers, Audrey Hepburn, Nancy Sinatra, Michael Caine and John Lennon.
