LensChoice Canada Launches Avid Progressive Lenses

LensChoice Canada Launches Avid Progressive Lenses

With more customized freeform lenses expected, labs develop new selection software. LensChoice Canada has launched Avid progressive lenses, a freeform full backside (FFB) lens. While Avid utilizes a state-of-the art Hoya progressive lens design unique to LensChoice, it's also special for another reason. The launch of Avid marks the introduction of LensChoice's Smart Select system, used to select the best corridor length available when entering the order on-line. Customers can order Avid through LensChoice's password protected website at www.lenschoice.ca.   With other progressive designs available from LensChoice, the corridor length is embedded in the brand name selected. However, the Smart Select system allows the lab software to determine the best corridor length available based on the seg height and frame dimension information provided. "We believe this will have a positive impact on our ordering process," suggests David McGrath, the general manager for LensChoice. He adds, "Customers will find it easier to order Avid and be assured of getting the right corridor length for their patient's needs."   LensChoice is looking to the future and anticipating how this software will be further utilised. With more and more customization expected with freeform lenses, the introduction of the Smart Select system allows for expanding the concept of providing variable corridor lengths without complicating the ordering process. This would have the benefit of reducing non-adapts and increasing patient satisfaction. McGrath explains, "Currently, Avid has just two corridor lengths available, 11 mm and 15 mm. With the Smart Select system, we could expand the number of corridor lengths available in the future without the need to list each length as its own design name. You simply select Avid and our lab software selects the appropriate corridor length." However, the system is flexible such that dispensers can still over-ride the lab software. A specific corridor length can be specified when ordering Avid by indicating 11 mm or 15 mm in the notes section of the on-line order.   Smart Select is being used for ordering Avid, but plans are being considered for implementation with other brands in the future, according to the company.
