Spotify looks to the future: music arrives on smart glasses

The streaming platform explores XR to bring songs, lyrics, and controls directly into users’ field of view.

The world of wearable devices is about to take another leap forward, and this time Spotify could be at the center of the revolution. According to insights from the beta version of the Android app, the music streaming platform appears to be working on an integration designed specifically for smart glasses based on XR technology.

The idea behind it is simple yet powerful: take music beyond the smartphone and make it visible within the user’s field of view. The first features discovered in the code suggest the presence of a “Now Playing” screen, showing track information and essential visual content.

In addition, one of the most interesting features is the ability to read song lyrics directly on the lenses. This detail could turn listening into a more immersive experience, especially for users who enjoy singing along or following the words in real time.

Despite its potential, it is important to note that these devices are not expected to work completely independently. XR glasses would mainly display basic information and controls, while the app would continue running on a connected smartphone.

This means that, at least in the early stages, more advanced functions such as playlist management or content discovery will remain tied to the phone. Smart glasses will therefore act as a kind of “intelligent second screen,” designed to make interaction with music quicker and more immediate.

Spotify’s move is no coincidence. The smart glasses sector is rapidly evolving, with major tech companies already working on new devices. Among them are giants like Google and Samsung, both investing in the Android XR ecosystem for the coming years.

In this context, preparing in advance means being ready when these devices become widely used. For a platform like Spotify, built on accessibility and immediacy, smart glasses represent a natural area for expansion.

Although the project is still in its early stages, everything points to a gradual evolution. The goal seems to be starting with essential features and then expanding the experience over time with more advanced controls and increasingly intuitive interactions.

If these developments are confirmed, listening to music could soon become even more integrated into everyday life: without taking out your smartphone, without interrupting what you are doing, but simply… by looking ahead.
