The Ferragamo responsible eyewear line makes its debut.

The Ferragamo responsible eyewear line makes its debut.

Since its beginnings, innovative creative use of materials has been a constant characteristic of Salvatore Ferragamo, with increasing attention paid to the environmental impact of its activities and products as the brand passionately follows through its commitment to ever more sustainable development. Further proof of this comes in the form of the recent launch, on World Earth Day 2021, of the Earth Top Handle bag and the F-80 Skeleton Sustainable watch. And then there is the debut of the Sustainable Thinking platform, accessible from ferragamo.com, with themed news articles providing deeper insight into an all-round sustainable mindset.

Ferragamo’s environmental responsibility now also embraces the brand’s eyewear universe with debut by the Responsible Eyewear Collection women’s line of sunglasses: two new models in a total of seven different colourways, featuring frames in Acetate Renew and BioRay lenses; recycled and renewable materials with unparalleled quality that boast lower impact on the planet. The line will be expanded in the future with the addition of two models of prescription glasses.

Thanks to an agreement between Eastman and Marchon, Ferragamo is the first brand to launch Acetate Renew on the market, a type of acetate made from a blend of biobased plastic, obtained from wood pulp from sustainable sources and recycled materials recovered from industrial processes. The BioRay shaded lenses are, meanwhile, made from biobased plastic derived from castor oil. Biobased plastics are made using renewable crop materials and reduce the use of non-biodegradable and finite oil.

The Responsible Eyewear Collection represents the best of Ferragamo style: made with cutting-edge materials, these glasses with their oversize yet extremely light frames stand out for their timeless allure, colour effects and exclusive details. These new frames are also rendered unique by the printed Gancini inserts across the arms, the iconic Ferragamo logo featured throughout the brand’s accessories and clothing.

The new collection come in special packaging that is also responsible: the external case is in fact made from a blend of linen and cotton, both renewable, biodegradable natural fibres, while the lining is in a certified polyester obtained from post-consumer recycling.
