Tom Ford bids farewell to Tom Ford (and the fashion industry?)

Tom Ford, one of the greatest designers of our time, has taken to social media to present his last collection for his eponymous brand: Tom Ford FW 2023. The sixty-one-year-old Texan designer, who launched his first women’s collection in 2010 after serving as Creative Director of the fashion house Gucci, chose to say goodbye in a video revisiting some of his favourite archive looks from the last 13 years. The short film was shot by fashion photographer Steven Klein and features top models including Amber Valletta, Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, Caroline Trenini and Karen Elson. The models walked the catwalk, danced and screamed inside enormous glass rooms, wearing the Tom Ford FW 2023 collection, as directed by Ford himself. The link with the cinema world is no accident; in the last few years the designer has acted as directed and screenwriter on two critical success and Oscar-nominated films: a Single Man (2009) and Nocturnal Animals (2016).

According to the Financial Times, the designer no longer intends to work on fashion projects.

The Tom Ford brand

The Tom Ford brand was taken over by Estée Lauder last November for 2.8 billion dollars and the new owner has extended Marcolin’s eyewear licensing contract. The agreement thus guarantees the eyewear manufacturer a perpetual license in exchange for 250 million dollars.
